i jumped ship to Xanga

[ 12.18.2002 Wednesday 6:15am ]

surprisingly, i joined the rank of Lord of the Rings freaks by catching the midnight showing of Two Towers.  the movie was great, so much more actions and in-depth thought process of each characters.  although many parts were neglected compared to the book, i still enjoyed the movie.  i got the tickets on fandango.com 3 days before the showing date, and 3 of the 4 showings were sold out!  i guess it was so popular that they added 2 more showings to accommodate the massive crowd.  i think the whole pittsburgh community was present.

the decision for me to lean on graduate school is a tough one, however, i want to pursue a further study in my field to taste the flavor of graduate student.  so, trying a masters degree first.

anyways, i am heading off to airport now.  the schedule for winter break looks like:

12/18 flight PIT -> ORD
12/19-12/20 driving Chicago, Illinois to Houston, Texas
12/29-12/30 driving Houston, Texas to Chicago, Illinois
1/3/03 flight ORD -> IAH
1/11/03 flight IAH-> PIT

and i will meet up with Texas buddies and enjoy the holidays!  everyone have a adventurous winter break and i shall greet you in 2003!

[ 11.23.2002 Saturday 5:30am ]

surprisingly, i was one of those crazy kids who went to see Harry Potter: Chamber of Secrets on its release date.  i'd say it's a good and fun movie.  but i got confused quite often during the scenes.  i guess Andrew's and Wai's suggestion of reading the books beforehand could've helped.

i like horror movies.  so naturally, i like The Ring, american version, much better than the japanese version.  the contrast comes from cultural differences.  in asian horror stories, there is usually a misunderstanding and a sorrow background story in the plot.  so that makes the movie to be more on psychological sadness due to lost family members or friends, and justice needs to be restored.  on the other hand, american horror stories take on a scenario of revenge through brutal killings and bloodlust.  in the end, either targets are killed or the seeker is killed, they are not spared of life.  nevertheless, that's exactly why i like it!  more realistic and i can relate better.  there are just some asian thoughts in the j-The Ring that i couldn't comprehend.  perhaps, there will be a sequel for the a-The Ring, though it will be largely different from the j-The Ring sequel.

the prequel of Silence of the Lamb, Red Dragon, is a great movie.  i liked it so much more than Hannibal.  Red Dragon has a balanced combination of both investigation thinking and the violence needed in a murder movie.  the plot kept me thinking and imaging throughout the entire movie.  the movie also bring into questions on how tragedy transforms a person, how childhood memories sway an adult deeper or completely opposite, and how romance erode one's ideology.

lol, enough of blood movies.  My Big Fat Greek Wedding is awesome!  not to mention i currently have a Greek-born professor, i like the family humor and immigrant illustrations in the movie.  so many memorable quotes!

why do people drink?  i just heard this one: it helps me write essays and do homework.  great.....

so, i've been hearing good stuff about 54-192 Acting for Non-majors.  i will take it in spring.  perhaps adding an elective studio in either piano or guitar to replenish my enthusiasm for musical instruments.

yeah, i do miss Hanh-Nhi, a lot!  can't wait until she comes back from the exotic asian heaven of south korea!  that reminds me that i need to call her some time.  anyways, the night ends with movie fun and big cooking in the kitchen

[ 10.28.2002 Monday 3:45am ]

do you remember the weekends back in freshman and sophomore years that when you have almost no skoolwerk to do?  yes, the past weekend was sort of like that.  but of course, there are always other tedious things that needed to be taken care of.

while reading Maxim, there are some great drinks:

bourbon crusher
1 oz jim beam
2 oz gatorade ice orange
1 spoonful of smucker's grape jelly
fill shaker with ice, add ingredients, cover, and shake vigorously.  stain the ice and serve with a straw.

dew gin fizz
2 oz gin
juice of half a lime
1.5 oz gatorade ice orange
splash of mountain dew
vigorously shake lime juice, gin, and gatorade in a glass of ice.  add the dew, stir, and strain into a martini glass.  garnish with lime twist.

vodka creamer
1 oz vodka
1 drop of hershey's chocolate syrup
1 oz milk
splash of coke
add the vodka, chocolate syrup, milk, and ice in a shaker.  shake vigorously.  top off with coke, stir.

mojito grande
juice of 1 lime
1.5 oz rum
1 lime-flavoredfrozen bar
ice cubes
mix all ingredients in a blender for 10 seconds.  pour into a glass, add ice cubes, and garnish with lime wedge.

the maxim
1 oz vodka
0.5 oz rum
0.5 oz gin
0.5 oz tequila
splash of curacao
splash of oj
1.5 oz cranberry juice
splash of sprite
mix all ingredients except last two in shaker of ice.  add cranberry juice slowly till you reach desired gray.  shake.  top off with a splash of sprite.  garnish with a lemon peel.

waiting for my new gadget IMP-350, the thinnest MP3/CD player from iRiver.  ups tracking1Z1825770353584348

so what's up with Hanh-Nhi?  i'm so happy when Hanh-Nhi is being a funnie missy, the excitement is indescribable.  i really missed the conversations with her, and i didn't realize that until now.  perhaps i should be more Hanh-Nhi!  hehe, maybe not wild sexual and alcoholic part...

can't believe the shear amount of schoolwork that is available for mid-semester break.  someone come save me!  i feel depressed and overwhelmed by all the things around me, i wanna escape far and fast.  anyways, Vincent is so cool, he sent me VCDs of:

love on a diet
goodbye mr. cool (ekin cheng!)
partners
chinese odyssey 2002
fat choi spirit
summer holiday

[ 10.12.2002 Saturday 9:00pm ]

what is "double clutching"?

double clutching is matching revs as you down shift so you don't upset the balance of the car.  in other words, it's a smooth transition between down shifts.  one way to do it is to drop the gear to neutral and rev the engine to the lower gear rev.  then down shift.  double clutch gets the engine revving faster, too.  great for highway battling.  not for The Fast and the Furious drag racing, don't believe any of that crap Don Terreto (Vin Diesel) is talking about.

[ 10.9.2002 Wednesday 3:00am ]

what is the weirdest food being sold at supermarket?

frozen rabbit.

[ 8.27.2002 Tuesday 3:00am ]

i must have broken Hanh-Nhi's lack-of-update record.  more than 3 weeks without any editing, don't you want to ask what kind of journal is this?

the past 2 weeks i was mostly in Houston, Texas, enduring the high humidity and temperature plus the seemingly ubiquitous rainfalls.  nevertheless, i managed to fix the dishwasher, replaced 6 windows sidings, and find a competitive price a/c repair contractor.  in addition, i used paint calk to seal some major window displacements.  nowadays, DVD player and home network are so popular, we got them too.

it is a rare moment that an alumni would visit Pittsburgh after graduation.  kudos to Chanh-Duy for visiting!!

now, i want to talk about my car.  is it possible to get a parking violation fine without having a car?  is it possible to get a parking violation fine without ever having a car in a city?  or is it possible to get a parking violation fine when you're 1500 miles away?

yes, yes, yes!  guess what?  i got a parking fine from CMU posted on June 24, 2002.  however, i was working in New Jersey without having my car in Pittsburgh at that time.  upon calling the parking services, they told me to "prove that i did no receive the ticket".  well, was it under the windshield wiper?  nope, i didn't see it in New Jersey.  on a separate phone call, they revealed that it was issued on November 20, 2001.  now, that's retarded!  it was well-known that i spent the entire year of 2001 in Austin, Texas, co-op for AMD.  i want to get the parking services staff fired!

sadly, i finally have a car this semester, but the battery died and i couldn't find a parking space so far.....

so, the first day of classes concluded with car troubles, ambitions to enhance the college experience, anxiety about post-graduation plan, and yummy sushi in stomach.

[ 8.5.2002 Monday 2:30am ]

since it's summer time, i grow into the tendency of putting things off until the last minutes.  i told myself that i gotta finish the internship presentation powerpoint slides 2 weeks ago.  guess what?  i only finished 9 out of 12 slides by sunday night.  the 3 other slides have to be approved by the processing engineers first.  also, the presentation notes are not ready either.  the internship presentation is an all-day event on thursday, looks like another boring thursday, except that i won't get my clothes dirty that day.  should i try out a new shirt/tie combination?

Signs was a good movie.  spooky and psychologically intriguing, and somewhat inaccurate.

Mr. Deeds was funny as hell.  i love Adam Sandler.

so, here is what i have in mind:
monday - shopping, write up notes for presentation
tuesday - shopping, laundry for clothes
wednesday - shopping, laundry for bedding, packing
thursday - shopping, prep for presentation, packing
friday - load boxes to car, drive to Pittsburgh
saturday - unpack, take care banking and investment accounts, parking garage permit
sunday - leave Pittsburgh, arrive in Houston

i spoke with L'Oreal HR on going to TOC and jumped to the TOC web site.  it doesn't look like this year's TOC will be very exciting.  i'm actually turning sullen about economic situation in the 2nd half of 2002.  first, august is usually a slow month.  second, august earnings affect how september spending will be like.  even worse, this year i'm actually there to look for full-time job, not as bargain hunter.  as Wai said, "work hard, play hard".  perhaps, no playing for me this time around.

anyways, this weekend concluded with fun in Philadelphia, good movies, and Smirnoff Ice for James!!

[ 8.2.2002 Friday 2:30pm ]

surprisingly, there is only one more week of work!  it almost seemed that the internship began only yesterday.  that also means, the presentation and exit interview are coming up.  when i turned in the evaluation form on tuesday, i learned that L'Oreal is going to recruit at the TOC!  woohoo, more companies hiring, good news!  yeah, i guess i could get some free stuff and dinner by helping out.  this reminds me that AMD is also going to the TOC.  what's the best way to juggle between two potential full-time employers?

no doubt, i'm somewhat worried about the job market next year.  it doesn't seem like many companies are hiring.  i'm looking for a company that is willing to pay for continuing education for a MS or MBA degree.  it is probably too early to conclude about the environment, perhaps, this is the last year to give 110% effort!

yep, this weekend will be awesome!  not only it's the last weekend on the east coast, things are actually blooming!  time to go out and have fun!!

[ 7.30.2002 Tuesday 2:00am ]

the trip to atlantic city was really awesome!  yay, did i mention i won eighty dollars, $80.50 to be exact, from slot machine?

ouch ouch, my left toe nail peeled while practicing round house kick.  it hurts a lot and really hinders any walking on my own part.  yeah, you can guess why i am not writing too much here.

[ 7.27.2002 Saturday 3:30am ]

having watched many dvds and saw a bunch of movies this summer, it is more enjoyable to actually see a good movie.  not just to pass time, but to have a good laugh.  the new movie austin powers in goldmember was extremely funny!  it repeated some of the jokes and scene from first and second shows, but the new parts are even more hilarious.  i think i missed some jokes because i laughed so hard on the ones before.  well, right after seeing goldmember, i watched international man of mystery and spy who shagged me.  that was awesome to get 3x of austin powers parody!

my roommate moved out.  his wife is coming for 10 days, i told him that it's better for her to stay somewhere else.  so he packed up and left.  but i think he'll be back in a week or so.  talking about work, i'm fearful that i actually look forward to next semester.  not only this internship is boring, next semester is the beginning of senior year, time to look for a full-time job.

i'm very happy to receive a letter from the distant great britain!  haha, wai hasn't forget about me yet.  i'm an admirer of wai.  she is just too cool!  moreover, i also received a birthday card from audrey, that was great!  wow, we have been friends for 10 years.  i hope i'll meet up with her in england some time.

ok, the cuts and bruises on my arms are hurting.....  perhaps, next time.....

[ 7.18.2002 Thursday 7:00pm ]

wow, it has been 2 weeks since i last made changes.  well, it has been some crazy time since the july fourth break.

i finally got the computer working on tuesday.  i replaced the motherboard with a gigabyte ga-7vtxe running via kt266a northbridge model.  surely after rounds of driver software installation, i'm back to the virtual world.  i need to pay a bunch of bills online and update my resume.

the weekend was fruitful.  i drove back to pittsburgh and retrieved some important stuff, before Bernice steals them.  haha, just joking!  there were some bills and bank statements that i need to take care of.  plus, i bought a ikea bed for $80 from tae-young kim.  the waterfront is really prosperous now, not to mention the traffic is terrible when getting in and out.  yeah, it was good to see diana yoon and taking her out to bravo the italian restaurant.  damn, webster 904 is such a mess!  someone oughtta clean things up a little.

i'm trying to get the pictures developed soon, stay tuned!!

[ 7.3.2002 Wednesday 10:15am ]

lookin' forward to a fourth of july long weekend!!  it is good to have a break in the middle of summer, at the same time, the summer internship is about half-way through!!  the calendar says, let me quote, exactly 5 weeks til august 9.  time to start stocking up on "beauty care" supplies and preparing for final presentation.....

where else is a better place to celebrate fourth of july than the nation's capital?  don't i luv fireworks?

it was funny that rutgers university informed me that i went over bandwidth limit on sunday.  well, you know me, i'm the computer genius!!

[ 7.1.2002 Monday 2:00am ]

clubbing scene in new york city is what i always talk about.  perhaps the realization came on friday night as we adventure to the Webster Hall Club in the village.  there was a long line of club goers outside when we arrived at 11:30pm.  the bouncers are definitely good at spotting fake ID's.  the club had 3 dance floors, one with 80's pop, r&b, and d&b (drum and bass) trance.  i have to admit the dance floors are big and the light shows were good.  i like r&b but not d&b trance.  if the music was better, i think the $30 cover would be worthwhile.  yeah, that is $30 per person.  pretty expensive club, but hey, this is new york city!  too bad we had to leave at 1:30am to catch the train, even though we didn't make it.  i had a blast glowsticking in the club.  then we headed to times square for some early morning enjoyment.  so at the macdonald's, we were stopped by a black security guard for going upstairs.  what a bastard.  by the time i got back to new brunswick, it was 4:30am already.

i finally got a chance to play tennis with neil.  it was really great to be able to run around and hit some tennis balls.  i definitely need to put some aim on my serves.  they're powerful, except that the success rate is low.  oh yeah, The Bourne Identity is a good movie.  i liked it!

did you know Jet Li is my favorite actor?  i want to practice martial arts like him.

guess who i met in new york city?  Keith Miu!!

so the weekend concluded with clubbing in new york city, playing tennis under great weather, and home cook steak in tummy!

[ 6.28.2002 Friday 3:00am ]

it is well known that i have the habit of shopping online for all sorts of useful or trivial things.  well, the the past week, i've made my way through:
1) amazon.com
2) buy.com
3) bodybuilding.com
4) monarchcomputer.com
5) watchoutlet.com
6) buy.com (again)

i'm happy beyond description when i received Sharon's postcard from Spain!!  my advocacy for people to take a European tour is standing and it is heart-warming to get little things from Sharon.  after all, she needs a grand European tour before starting to work full-time.  Good luck to Sharon at AMD!!

still pondering on Wai's question, "how come James doesn't get girls?"  what do you think?

[ 6.25.2002 Tuesday 3:00am ]

top eight college movies:
1) animal house
2) the graduate
3) revenge of the nerds
4) the freshman
5) american pie 2
6) legally blonde
7) road trip
8) dead man on campus

[ 6.23.2002 Sunday 1:15am ]

i almost burned down the Rutgers dorm!!

well, not quite, except for the pot of food was all burnt :-(  i think (?) i left the stove on while i went out to see Minority Report.  then we went to eat at Somerset Diner.  by the time i got back, it was 4.5 hours later.  first, the hall way stinks.  second, there was a note on the counter left was firefighter saying about smoke condition.

in the end, nothing was on fire, just a pot of brown-black substance.  am i a troublemaker??

[ 6.22.2002 Saturday 2:30am ]

what a week gone by without much excitement.  the visit to the L'Oréal New York office wasn't too exciting.  i think i fell asleep for the most of time.....

summer in New Jersey is getting warmer, in fact, it was so hot today that i was afraid of the air condition might fail.  it is funny that every morning i leave New Brunswick at 7am, however, i have random chance of reaching Clark at either 7:30am or 8am.  same route, same time, and same driving speed.  isn't New Jersey traffic funny?  today i met two CMU-related people.  first one at work, a manager asked if i were a summer intern.  so i began to introduce myself.  guess what?  he was so happy that i go to CMU and revealed that he graduated in 1970 (that's a long time ago!).  the second one was at post office, this lady at the counter saw my CMU shirt and told me his son goes to there to study computer science.  i used to dislike CMU, but i come to accept it and like it after years of forced education and departure.

by the way, i just received the Sanyo SCP6200 cell phone.  need to activate it.  it's so small, sleek, and thin!!  did i mention i hate fat and big electronics?

[ 6.17.2002 Monday 1:00am ]

what a great summer so far!!  although the work at L'Oréal is probably not challenging enough, what the L'Oréal store offers is incredible and the joy of being in New York City is exciting.  every weekend, we rush to NYC after work on Friday to catch the best of eating, shopping, and visual wonders!!  i luv the bubble tea at Saint Alps's!!  on Friday, Judy took us (me, Emerald, Alan) to an arcade shop in Chinatown to observe DDR playing skills.  looks like i have to practice more...  after hours of searching, we finally found this fake ID shop for Emerald, who chose an Alabama ID.  haha, i don't know any aSian from Alabama so far.  and when we try to hit Bitter End bar, Judy's Connecticut ID was "too shiny".  what's the odd of this happening?  on Saturday, Emerald and i found a huge Hongkong Supermarket in North Brunswick, NJ.  guess what?  they even have a bubble tea and bakery!!  i actually stayed up to watch the FIFA World Cup Senegal:Sweden match, 2:1 Sengal beats Sweden.

the story began when i arrived in Clark, NJ, on May 28.  well, L'Oréal was nice enough to put me in hotel for four nights until i could move into Rutgers University dorm on June 1.  hehe, the hotel room comes with king-size bed and runs at $120 per night.  the Rutgers dorm is nice, it's a suite with 2-bedroom.  yeah, L'Oréal is paying for it too.  oh yeah, NJ gas station is all full-service, i guess sometimes people can't pump gas on their own.  this reminds me of the gas station scene from Zoolander movie, LOL

last week i met up with John Yuen, who i've known since the first week of freshman year.  i have to say that John changed a lot and he has become near-perfect.  good luck with full-time job in Virginia, John!!

it kind of stinks that most interns at L'Oréal are from local area.  they tend to enjoy their own circle of friends, while we out-of-state interns are dying to explore NYC and the Atlantic Coast!!  i'd wish L'Oréal to do more to cozy up the interns in the future.

so the weekend concluded with adventures in NYC, shopping day on Saturday, and home cooking on Sunday.  Please, can't get enough!

[ 5.16.2002 Thursday 5:00am ]

the 2nd half of junior year is finally over.  in one way, my junior year stretched for 2 years, but in reality, it lasted 1 year in terms of class time.  i am glad it was over.  7 classes, i think that was my academic limit.  so now what?  i am ready to go home!  but i miss my friends too!

it was good to go to buffalo blues last night with John and Andrew.  last dinner get-together before John going back to Rochester, New York, and Andrew going back to Boston, Mass.  after dinner, we went bowling.  i think this is probably my 3rd time, i totally sucked.  we played 3 games, not to mention my highest score was 97.  John and Andrew totally whipped my ass.  somehow we got into the conversation about having multiple girlfriends.  hm...i'm not so sure if that's a good idea.....

anyways, i started my frantic packing and cleaning spree after i got home.  i threw away 6 bags full of junk (actually, they're still laying in the hallway and i need to take them to the trash room).  now my room is much cleaner and i'm fully packed.  here is my schedule for next 2 weeks, for those of you curious cats:

5/16 flying from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Houston, Texas
5/17 going to see StarWars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones
5/25-5/27 driving from Houston, Texas, to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
5/28 driving from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Clark, New Jersey
5/29 starting summer internship
8/3 flying to Beijing, China, for martial arts lessons
8/24 leaving Beijing, China, for fall semester of senior year

while talking to Wai, i felt the need for a totally reflection upon this come-back semester.  many things i should have changed and many ways that i need to improve upon myself.  Wai is helping me to set goals and keep a journal.  thanks, Wai ;-)

yep, i don't think there will be any new posting until June.  so good luck everyone in your summer travel or internship!  take care and have fun!  congratulations on graduating seniors, you made it!  more Corona for James!!

[ 5.12.2002 Sunday 6:00am ]

wow, i'm becoming like Hanh-Nhi, a lack of updates to the journal while making excuses.  well, the finals are projects really buried me, under piles of paper and insurmountable pressure as well.  i think this is probably the most academically-challenging semester.  yeah, what a welcome back semester, don't you think?

thanks to Braden, i'm falling in luv with Ford GT40.  it looks like tomorrow's muscle car with 500-hp v-8.  i'm getting in line now, even though it won't come out until 2003.

here is 104KRBE cool feelings, i can't stop laughing:
[1] when someone tells you they were going to give you something, but they had to give it to someone else because you weren't around ... that's a cool feeling.
[2] when you're reading a confidential letter and someone is trying to read it over your shoulder ... that's a cool feeling.
[3] when your ex dedicates a song to you over the radio and you hear it with your new date ... now that's a cool feeling.

actually, i suddenly feeling really tired, i'm off now.....

[ 5.6.2002 Monday 8:00pm ]

good luck to everyone!!  ah, why do some people finish so early?

[4.28.2002 Sunday 4:30am ]

saturday was one of the most relaxed days i had this semester.  taking 7 classes was just insane.  sometimes, i feel i have so much ambition, but so little hope.

i couldn't stop laughing.  the business plan competition presentation went pretty well.  at least we didn't get grilled.  although i arrive somewhat late, not to mention ann-marie's frantic calling.  actually, it sounds really funny now.  too bad we didn't have a few servings of bubble tea for the judges, it would been awesome to show them what it is in real size, instead of paper talk.

look forward to the last week of classes!!  uh, then bunch of final exams.....

truthfully, look forward to fall 2002 semester.  i want to make senior year great!!  i'm so happy wai is returning from england.  she's a good pal and funny person.  i think with my lighter class load next semester, i'd have more time for making friends and meet new people.

read some really nice short stories.  quote them later.

[ 4.25.2002 Thursday 6:00am ]

stress, stress, and stress!!  good thing this week is almost near the end.  looking forward to a deep sleep on saturday.

AMD rocks and kicks @$$!!

[ 4.20.2002 Saturday 4:45am ]

yay!!  the carnival is here!!  great weather, uh, until saturday night rain.  anyways, the theme for this year is inside out, the booths are really cool and well designed.  well, i don't think i'd like to get on the rides.  terrible motion sickness.  oh yeah, last year, when i came to pittsburgh to visit, i took motion sickness pills before i went on the rides.  you know what?  these types of drug turns out to be a slight tranquilizer.  so, yes, i was totally fine on the rides.  then i felt like passing out.  haha, not alcohol passing out, just felt extremely sleepy.

twenty-eight things NOT to think about:
 1 giving up
2 emotional sorrow (yeah, like break-up)
 3 divorce (haven't done that)
 4 drifting (it's not unfortunate, it's a privilege)
 5 unemployment
6 trend (set one's own, not following someone else's)
 7 style (set one's own)
 8 judging
 9 maturity (mature means old)
10 unfit (find one's own destiny)
11 defeats
12 mistakes
13 shallowness (when one becomes deep, one is old)
14 celebrities (not worth the craze)
15 worthiness (must realize what one deserves)
16 solitude
17 feeling down
18 defects
19 misunderstanding
20 rumors
21 craziness!!
22 stability (one needs this when one gets old)
23 pressure
24 salaries
25 money
26 house
27 age
28 risks

heard some pretty cool ideas today.

[ 04.17.2002 Wednesday 5:30am ]

no kiddin', this week is one heck of a week.  so many meetings and homework.  moreover, it's booth-construction week.  i look forward this semester to end, oh, that means finals are coming up too.

yep yep, Alisa finally got her much deserved care package.  i hope she likes it ^_^

haha, i got hooked on Civilization 3 over the weekend.  it was a fun game though.

[ 04.09.2002 Tuesday 4:00am ]

another insomnia, too many things on my mind.

[ 04.07.2002 Sunday 1:15am ]

saw so many movies the past week, including:
Blackhawk Down
Blade 2
Brotherhood of the Wolf
Collateral Damage
Ice Age
Mummy Returns, The
Panic Room
Queen of the Damned
Resident Evil
Time Stoppers

i think that's all, maybe i am missing a few.

[ 04.03.2002 Wednesday 03:30am ]

oops, missed an entry for april fool's day.  what a terrible sin!?

i made sangria using a bottle of mystic cliff cabernet sauvignon red wine, orange juice, lime juice, sugar, and slices of fruit.  it was actually not bad, considering my first time making it.  i think using merlot would have been a better idea to thin it down.  cabernet is probably a bit strong for sangria, too.  i felt the alcohol after tasting just one glass!!  haha, should invite some girls over to have a drink ;->

gee, i feel like i'm not good at conversing with the female crowd.  any cures?

[ 03.31.2002 Saturday 02:30am ]

was today the day of feast and eating?  seems like it.  first, we went to apple bee's for lunch at 3 o'clock in the afternoon.  i had a 9 oz sirloin steak, which was great because i have been craving for steak-style beef for a while.  it have gotten so busy with classes that i didn't have time to cook.  second, for dinner, we went to kiku at station square for sushi.  i had the kiku super combo, including miso soup, ginger salad, sashimi plate, sushi plate, tampura plate, and teriyaki chicken.  not satisfied, i order another set of tuna roll.  well, of course, sushi is not cheap.  but the food was so good!!  do you like japanese food?

i was so surprised that the university center closes so early, closing at 6pm!!  i only had a short time to work out, but i am trying to push for more weights and concentrate on chest, biceps, and triceps.  proteins and weight lifting, that's all i need!!

so i am scared to death about my upcoming site visit to pfizer global engineering at new york city.  not to mention that the job market is not optimistic.  i really want the job and work for pfizer, plus i have been reading many interview advices from various career web site.  oh yeah, i need to pick out a shirt/tie combination to be different.  what do you think of my chance?

I was expecting this week to be tough, but maybe the profs heard enough complaints and decided to postpone 2 exams until 2 weeks later.  Although I was hoping to get all these studying out of way before spring break, it wouldn't hurt to have some more studying time.  Well, no major plans for spring break.  I just need to relax and spend some time with my girl.  Actually, Toronto is only 6 hours of driving away.....  Coo', coo', there is an idea!!

I got into this discussion with Neil the other day about evolution.  He says his fellowship believes in "guided evolution", in which evolution occurred but with a "guiding hand" from "God" to sort out the randomness.  This sounds even more fictional.  I thought the Christians believe in Adam and Eve, who never aged until the forbidden fruit temptation, and all these wonderful paradise stories.  Perhaps with his theory, the Bible is not true after all.

Well, personally, I cannot take evolution as valid.  Probably some higher being got excited one day and created complex creatures like us.  Who knows?

Almost got mowed over by a minivan today!!  Don't feel like dragging more bad Pittsburgh drivers into court again.  Hrm...I think I forgot the license plate and color already.....

[ 03.22.2002 Friday 05:30am ]

Am I up early or I haven't gone to sleep?  Guess what?  Some idiot in my apartment tripped the fire alarm and all the residents had to go outside at 5am and freezing weather.  Not to mention the 9-floor worth of stairs to climb.  What a morning workout..... :-{

I really feel that I need to get one night of good sleep and catch up on work and organizing.  Perhaps that could be possible this weekend.

Just got my ticket for Pfizer interview, $428!!  I hope the reimbursement process is speedy.  Do you think I got a good chance?

[ 03.21.2002 Thursday 04:30am ]

What a hectic week!!  Which week hasn't been stressful ever since this semester began?  First, it was Monday when I finished two homework in two hours during lectures.  Then there comes Tuesday full of studying and homework.  It actually ended well with bubble tea relaxation with Didi.  Didi is such an impressive girl!!  I am full of admiration toward her.  Okay okay, that sounds too romantic.....  Wednesday is another day of studying and interview.  Diana actually said the silver tie with dark azure shirt combination is good.  I guess that is different from traditional white or blue shirt suit.  Maybe I will try pink or purple shirt with pimp style some time.  Chanh-Duy suggested ASA party at Jimmy Tsang's.  I think I'll make time for that.

Oh yeah, I just realized this Rice Bowl thing is supposed to be updated daily.  Sure, I'll give that a try.

[ 03.17.2002  Sunday  03:15am ]

It is my first attempt to launch a blog, or whatever it should be called, on the Internet.  There is no real purpose, except for entertainment and self-enjoyment, perhaps a certain degree of curiosity

Pittsburgh weather is really funky.  On Thursday, it was probably the best day I've seen after I returned.  Friday started raining.  Saturday was bitterly cold around 30's during March.  I don't know, maybe a snowstorm in near future?

I am getting depressed over all the work I get from classes.  In short, I'm swamped!!  Plus I am leaving off-campus.  This leaves me little time to have a life and kills chances to meet new peepz.  Never thought of leaving school for a year would be so hard.  Even though working was very draining, at least I was  getting paid well and treated well.  Sunny Austin to snowy Pittsburgh is not a cool journey.  Hahaha, that was one awesome year in AMD Austin!!

More Corona for James!!
